There is not much to see in Vietnam, is the same everywhere, dirt and deceit, so you can shrink your vacation for 5 days, it is more than enoght.

First time I went [as tourists] my wife and I went for ten days .. so abundant, oh now you have 12 days, my great suggestions, first thing you do is book a flight to Hue. than the rest of the day to Ha Noi’s old quarter, the next day sees a day trip to Ha Long Bay or “Chua Huong” [pink pagoda] .. Morning flight to Hue .. spend two nights three days to the places to see .. The train [3 hours] to Da Nang / Hoi An [1 hour drive from the station] .. two days in Hoi An, flights to Nha Trang, Nha Trang three nights, flight to Sai Gon … [Sapa see a second time]

I hate to tell you this, but good luck. I had originally planned to do the same, but when I looked at Train Schedule I realized it was almost impossible. Infrastructure is lacking in Vietnam, and I’m sure if you’ve seen one bus schedules or train that will soon prove, even after just looking at your information with the two extra days if you have enough time to start to make it more realistic. 9 days and I had planed to do the same, but ultimately decided it was better to live in half and more of trying to see, I chose the south because I thought Saigon was a little more visible than Hanoi, I would like things to Halong Bay in Thailand (I hear Halong Bay is pretty good though) and there are many things to see in the south, I went to Saigon (and vicinity) Da Lat, Na Trang, Mui Na, and delta. If this is not an option for you, your current route looks fine, and I would consider an open ticket for the train, so you can get for one day by train to the south that you want to break the long train journey! I had a great time in Vietnam, I think it may have been my favorite from the seven countries I visited in Southeast Asia.

Visit Nha Trang, it’s such a beautiful place there. With beaches and food. Friendly community! But if you’re a city person .. GO to Saigon / Ho Chi Minh City, Fasion and very lively with different arrays of delicious food!

I would not jump Sapa, despite the fact that out of the way. Hue is also fun and exciting, and Ha Long Bay is fantastic. I think that would be my top lashes out the set. I would also recommend the Nature Reserve in Ninh Binh (just south of Hanoi), which has a large sanctuary for monkeys.
